60L Backpacking Kit

This is the pack that I used in my time as a Boy Scout. I have a few hundred miles on it in all sorts of weather, ranging from sunny Summer New Mexican desert to snowy Winter Sierra Nevada mountains. I've found the most important thing for your comfort on extended wilderness trips is nice boots, so don't be afraid to splurge. If you're going winter camping a high quality sleeping bag is also very important. Other than those 2 primary items, you can get away with some cheaper/absent gear and survive for a few days. If worst come to worst and you're uncomfortable for a few days, you'll know what you need to bring for next time!
